Do it Yourself Web Design

Local Area Network
|
You will need a LAN to begin with, this will probably
be nothing more than setting up "Dial up networking" on your Win95 system
so that you can access the Web from your Personal Computer.
|
Internet Connectivity
|
You will have to have an Internet Service Provider
(ISP) which will usually give you a "home page" space of 5 or 10MB or
so that you can use as a "testing area" for your Web designs. We are currently
recommending Pacifier or EasyStreet for this function.

HTML Editors
|
HTML for Dummies is a good place to start, but
an even easier place to start is with a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor.
There area several very good ones out there. There are also several very bad ones
out there.
Adobe's PageMill
is one of the good ones. Micro$lop's FrontPage is one of the bad ones.

Seek experienced help that you can access for
free. You're going to need it eventually, so find out about it now. The Portland
PC Users Group has an Internet Special
Interest Group that you will find invaluable.

AnyBrowser.com has a "code
checker" that we use all the time.
And the WC3 will check your code as well.
